Hey there, fam!
I figure that most early subscribers are probably here mainly to catch up with what I’m doing, so I’ll kick things off a little early (most posting will be on Sundays) with an update.
I’ve just wrapped up my annual spring holiday, so I’ve been spending a bit of time lately indulging in some R&R. I’ve read 1.5 massive tomes in the last week and a half; the first was done in a couple of days, but I’ve been lingering a bit on the second because I’ve been doing so much else (yay, errands and appointments that I didn’t want to deal with around work!). I’ve also been putting some work into a couple of projects:
I’m in the middle of an editing job for part of a novel at the moment, which is a follow-up to the editing I did for the first 20k words. My capacity for editing is not especially high, so I’m working one chunk at a time in order to ensure my client is getting work back in good time.
I’m also chipping away at my next theatrical idea, a three-person comedy set in Elizabethan England using character archetypes pilfered from Commedia Dell’Arte. I’m describing it as an enemies-to-lovers speedrun mostly in blank verse; unfortunately, although I adore iambic pentameter with all my soul, it’s not especially quick to write, so I’m only sitting at about 12% right now… (sob)
I periodically write reviews of local theatre performances for Backstage Christchurch (when energy levels allow), which get published on Facebook. I even did one last week for the university’s drama society and have another scheduled for this weekend!
The project that I haven’t done a lot of writing for, but have done a lot of musing about over the last months, is a series of detective stories starring a pair of siblings in 1920s London. I’d started writing the first chronological story as a play, initially, but after I got into it I realised that it would work better as a novella, so I’m in the process of transferring the script to prose. I’d love to keep working on it, but I am rather keen to get my Elizabethan play done sooner rather than later, and time is quite limited. Hopefully once I finish the editing job I’ll be able to use that time to get back into regular creative writing sessions, and I can work on both writing projects!
Ta-ta for now, and I’ll talk to you all again on Sunday!
